TikTok Partners With SoundCloud For Direct Music Saves, Library Transfers

TikTok and SoundCloud announced a new partnership that integrates SoundCloud into TikTok’s “Add to Music App” feature, enabling users to save discovered songs directly to their SoundCloud playlists.

SoundCloud thus joined the “Add to Music App” ecosystem as TikTok continues to expand its music discovery capabilities. The feature, launched globally in 2024, has generated over one billion track saves and billions more streams on music streaming services.

“SoundCloud has always been the go-to platform for discovering what’s next in music, from emerging artists to breakout genres,” Emmy Lovell, SoundCloud’s Global Head of Music, said in the announcement. “This integration helps turn casual listeners into lifelong superfans while strengthening our commitment to fueling the next generation of music culture.”

The artist-first platform hosts over 400 million tracks from more than 40 million artists and is recognized for featuring emerging artists and genres often unavailable elsewhere.

Coinciding with the TikTok integration, SoundCloud launched “Move Your Music,” allowing users to transfer music libraries—including liked songs and playlists—from competing services including Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music.

“Tens of millions of TikTok users take advantage of the Add to Music App feature to save the music they discover on TikTok to their favorite streaming platform,” stated Lindsey Kelt Zikry, TikTok’s Global Product Partnerships Lead.

How the Integration Works

The “Add to Music App” feature appears as an “Add Song” button next to track names at the bottom of TikTok videos. When users press the button, they can select SoundCloud as their preferred music streaming service. The track is then saved to a default playlist on SoundCloud, which becomes the default destination for future saves.

This partnership follows TikTok’s addition of Deezer to the “Add to Music App” feature in December 2024 and comes after TikTok and Universal Music Group reached a new licensing agreement in May 2024 following a brief dispute.

Platform Impact on Music Industry Performance

A recent study commissioned by TikTok and conducted by Luminate demonstrates the platform’s growing influence on music industry metrics. The research found that 84% of songs entering the Billboard Global 200 in 2024 achieved viral status on TikTok before charting.

Artists with a strong TikTok engagement correlation experience an average 11% weekly streaming growth compared to 3% for those with a lower correlation. The study also reveals that TikTok users spend 48% more time streaming music than average U.S. music listeners and are 68% more likely to subscribe to paid music streaming services.
